Geise’s GTO Qualifies #4 at Sonoma in Top Sportsman

If you turn back the hands of time, you might remember a project that we did for Curt Geise. Geise purchased a Pontiac GTO prostock chassis built by Tim McAmis and wanted to run it in Top Sportsman. Instead of running a big CID motor like most of the competition, we built him a custom twin Y2k88 turbo system. When we dynoed the car over a year ago, the Pontiac powered 525″ on only 10PSI made just over 1000RWHP.

Geise finally had a chance to take the car out to track at the Sonoma divisional race and had a lot of success. Qualifying #4 in the class for your first outing isn’t too much to ask for, especially when you have George Scott and the tuner, Job Spetter JR of Turbo People of New York, eager to ramp more boost in to get to that number one position. Geise’s best time was 7.18 @ 192MPH. He backed up that run with 3 more passes: 7.22 @ 191MPH and 7.25 @ 192MPH (twice).

Who said you couldn’t bracket race a turbocharged car again?

Rob aka Boost Master goes 9’s with TTiX

Rob called the shop yesterday and wasted no time telling me about his weekend. In fact the second thing out of his mouth was, “I went 9.98 at 151MPH!” That’s another X kit into the 9’s and with a MPH like that, who knows what the car could have done if it hooked up or had an auto tranny ;).

The paparazzi got to me before Rob could with a video of the race, lets check it out!

Wolfe Racing Rebuild

UPDATE 07-18-2008
We spent all last night working on the car. At about 9:00 they realized that the lifters were at the trailer at the track. They finished putting in the new rear end and what part of the engine assembly they could do here. After that we loaded up all the trucks and headed out to the track to keep our neighbors awake for the evening, ha! At 2AM, we were on the way home from the track with a complete race car fully assembled with hopes to fire it this morning at 9AM sharp.

After I arrived to work, I was told Mark wasn’t going to make his first qualifying run and I’m not sure why. I will report back on Monday but I didnt leave you empty handed. I took some pictures of Mark assembling his bottom end and Jack and George setting up the new rear end.

Mark Wolfe, driver of the Wolfe Racing Thunderbird, has a lot of work to do before Friday. Lucky for him, we’ve decided to give him a hand. Last weekend at Woodburn, Wolfe’s Thunderbird decided to snap the crankshaft in half on the first qualifying run down the track. When the crew made it to tow him back to the pits they knew something was wrong:

Me: Whats wrong?
Mark: I snapped the crankshaft in half.
Me: Really?
Mark: The harmonic balancer is sitting in the belly pan Nick, you tell me.
Me: Yeah that’s no good…
Mark: I’m done for the season… Unless George can weld it up, hehe.
Me: Hahaha, there ya go!

Mark wasn’t very happy but he still managed to laugh. Obviously George can’t weld up the crank but what he can do is help Mark still make the National event this weekend at Seattle, or at least try too. Before the end of the weekend Mark had already sourced everything but a block. On Monday he made a trip over to Yakima to pick up some engine parts and also managed to find enough parts to build a second spare motor. On Tuesday we managed to find a block and also heard back that the cylinders heads were reusable as well. At this point, things are looking good for the Wolfe Racing Team.

Its Wednesday morning and there is still a lot of work to be done. For now, here are some pictures of how this upset Thunderbird sits and the work they have in store :) .

Rick Symth’s Top Alcohol Dragster

Here is just a few of the projects that we have done in the past. Most of the work you will find here are custom turbo systems that we’ve done for customers or headers for race cars. Either way this should give you an idea of the quality work that we do on each and every car in our facility.

Rick Smyth’s Twin Turbo Alcohol Dragster… 07-2008

Ed and Rick Smyth from E&S Services asked us to step up their SBC dragster with a pair of turbochargers back in 2006. They planned on running the motor and turbo system on a mechanically alcohol injected system.

After we finished the kit, they never had much success with the mechanical injection and wanted to switch over to electronic fuel injection. We modified their Hogan’s manfiold to accept 16 160pph injectors that will be controlled through a Accel DFi GenVII system.

After switched over to electronic fuel injection, the dragster ran its best time yet at the Seattle Divisional in June of 2008 but there was still more to be done. This turbosystem still needed an intercooler to lower IATs in hopse to lower the exhaust gas temperature. Unfortunately after building the intercooler, our first pass on the dyno wasn’t a good one. One of the lifters broke and got wedged between cylinders 5 & 6 causing an expensive mess. With the little data that we collected, the intercooler definitely did its job by lowering the IATs and EGTs.

Rest In Peace, Scott…

Unfortunately we lost another funny car racer last weekend, Scott Kalitta. We’ll keep these stickers (available through http://www.kalittaracing.com/) up all this week in memory of him. You may send condolences via E-mail to the Kalitta family: champion@kalittaracing.com

Seattle Divisional

The past weekend was the Seattle Divisional NHRA Race. We had our hands full with not only our own personal cars but our customer’s cars as well. The highlight of the weekend was breaking and setting the new world record in Competition Eliminator’s AA/AT class. Wolfe Racing’s ‘96 Ford Thunderbird went 6.51@218.69MPH. He also managed to break the MPH record as well later in the weekend. And if that just isn’t enough, Turbonetics is sponsoring this racing team with a new pair of y2k turbochargers. It won’t be much longer until you see another post like this one but with an even faster MPH and ET.

2 Turbos, DFi, and a lot of Methanol

Long time no see? I’ve been working on the Catalog side of the website here and there if some of you haven’t noticed. If you get a chance, you might check it out and let me know how I did.

Other then that, we’ve been busy with a lot of twin turbo division 6 cars lately and we continue to stay busy with  them. The latest project is Rick Smyth’s (E&S Services) twin turboed 4xx CID SBC. Back in 2007 , we made some big changes to this dragster. This dragster used to be mechanically injected but it didn’t work out too well. We took the Hogan’s manifold and converted it to EFi for 16 160pph injectors. For engine management, we used an Accel DFi GenVII box. We were even able to put the dragster on the dyno and made over 1100RWHP. Last weekend we went out to the track and on the second pass, Rick laid down a 8.49 @ 196.xx. There is still a lot room left for improvement and we hope to get this dragster dialed in this weekend at the Pacific Raceway Divisional. Below are a few pictures of the dragster and a dyno graph.

Have a great weekend and if your in the area swing by the divisional race. See ya :)

Mission Raceway 5-23-2008 - 5-25-2008

A few of us went up to Mission Raceway last weekend for the 2008 Lordco Nationals. We’ve been working very closely with Mark Wolfe Racing’s Competition Eliminator car and came with in one hundredth of the NHRA world record. Wolfe’s ‘96 Thunderbird crossed the finish line in 6.54@219MPH. This is 7MPH over the current record! With the Seattle Division approaching fast, we’re hoping to bring this record home with us.

Below is a video by Larry Pfister of Horsepower Heaven with runs from all the competition eliminator cars from that weekend. If you look closely at the 3:19 and 4:04 sections of the video, you’ll see this impressive Thunderbird in action.
